Colts lose Suzuki to injury, pickup two wins

Flint, Michigan: The Barrie Colts powered by a four-goal first period swept their Michigan trip. Friday Night it was the Colts winning in a shootout in Saginaw to begin the weekend across the border.

 

Friday: The Colts began their two-game road trip across the border with a meeting against the Saginaw Spirit. In the first period, Ryan Suzuki and Jacob Tortora found the back of the net for the Colts making it 2 – 0. Ethan Cardwell cut the lead in half for the Spirit three minutes into the second period. Before the second period came to an end Tyler Tucker found the back of the net for the Colts. The third period would see the Spirit soar as they fired thirteen shots on net. Blade Jenkins got the Spirit within one at 14:52 before they got a big power-play late and tied the game at 18:04 when Damien Giroux beat Arturs Silovs. In the shootout, it was Tyson Foerster and Nicholas Porco scoring for Barrie. Jenkins and Perfetti were both stopped for the Spirit by Silovs who picked up the win.

 

During the first period, Ryan Suzuki took a high stick to the face, he would leave the game after taking the stick and would not return to the game or play Saturday in Flint.

 

Saturday: The Colts four-goal first period led them to victory Saturday afternoon in Flint versus the Firebirds. Riley Piercey, Jacob Tortora, Aidan Brown & Victor Hadfield all scored four minutes apart as the Colts jumped out to a big 4 – 0 lead in the first period. Jack Phibbs picked up the lone goal for Flint in the Second Period. The Third Period would see Tyson Foerster extend his point streak to nine games with his 14th of the year.

Foerster keeps hot streak going

Tyson Foerster has been on an absolute tear over the last nine games. He has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points over nine games. The draft-eligible prospect from Alliston, Ontario has already beaten his career-high set last year in goals (10) assists (13) and points (23).

 

SILOVS ON FIRE

Rookie Netminder Arturs Silovs has been on fire lately, the rookie from Riga Latvia has put up a record of 7 – 2 – 0 – 0. He has won his last five starts allowing 11 goals on 178 shots. Most recently he picked up the win Saturday stopping 37 of 38 versus Flint.

 

Willms Iron Man Streak

Barrie Colts Captain, Jason Willms, is currently on an Iron Man Streak, The Overager from Kitchener, ON  is set to play in his 221st straight OHL Game. Willms originally drafted in the 3rd Round by the Colts in 2015 has played in each of the Colts games over his four-year career. He has also played in 19 Pre-Season and 12 Playoff Games.

 

Tucker Hits Milestone

Barrie Colts Defencemen and St Louis Blues Prospect Tyler Tucker reached 200 Career Games Played this Weekend. The Colts 2016 1st Round Pick has played his entire OHL Career in Barrie with his best season coming last year where he had 14 goals & 45 assists for 59 points.

 

Next weekend sees the Colts in only one game as the Western Conference Erie Otters pay a trip to the Colts Centre Saturday Night at 7:30 PM.

 

The Colts now sit in second place in the Central Division with a record of 10 – 5 – 0 – 1 for 21 points. It is a light weekend for the Colts but a big two points will be huge against the Otters.
