Guindon and Bryant set to Attack OHL in Owen Sound

Owen Sound Attack Happy With Picks at OHL Priority Selection

Cedrick Guindon was with his mom and dad in their kitchen, while on video chat with his aunt and uncle, when he was selected 10th overall in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection by the Owen Sound Attack.

“The first 5 seconds it didn’t feel real. It felt like one of those dreams.. it was one of the best days of my life,” said Guindon.

“They (aunt and uncle) are big fans of the OHL, and they support me a lot. We were chatting trying to get the stress away and they reacted louder than me(when he got drafted).. we had a good chat the whole day, it was a good family moment.”

Guindon played for the Rockland Nationals, where he scored 24 goals and added 35 assists in 41 games.

Nathan MacKinnon. The way we create plays and use our speed to separate from other players, those are both things we do,” said Guindon on which player he tries to model his game after in the NHL.

Guindon added that multiple members of the Attack’s coaching staff reached out to him after he was drafted. “When I got drafted Dale DeGray called me shortly after to congratulate me. Multiple members on the coaching staff called me or texted me to welcome me.”

Attack 2nd Round Selection

With Owen Sound’s second round pick, they selected Gavin Bryant 37th overall from the Brantford 99ers.

“It was so surreal, I zoned out. After the fact seeing that my name was up there and seeing that such a great organization like the Owen Sound Attack had drafted me, it was a dream come true.” said Bryant.

“Once my name went up there I took a glance down at my phone and I had around 100 notifications. I was so thankful for all the support from family and friends, it was a day that I’d never forget.”

Throughout this year with the 99ers, Bryant was trying to work on a few things throughout his minor midget year.

He adds that fans can expect to see a Patrice Bergeron or Jonathan Toews style of player when he is on the ice.

“I’m a two-way player. I care about my defensive zone and once I get my job done there I go have some fun in the offensive zone, it’s how I was raised to play. I like my vision on the ice and I see my teammates really well with or without the puck.”

DeGray had a conversation on the phone with Gavin prior to the draft, where he told Bryant what he can expect with the City of Owen Sound.

“It sounds like such a great city. It’s a small city, but everyone knows who you are and everyone knows who the Attack are. The team is big with the community and I love that, I’m really excited to get things going.”

He adds that he isn’t too nervous leaving home for the first time to play with a new team.

“I’m really excited for that opportunity. It’s always tough leaving your family, they are prepared for it and so am I. It’s been up in conversations throughout the year, hanging out with them this summer is important. If I’m able to make the team and head to Owen Sound, I’m excited for a new school and new teammates.”
