Overview of the O: 2nd annual United Way charity game scheduled, OHL alumni in NHL transaction news

For the second consecutive year the Sudbury Wolves and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will face-off in the United Way Charity Match presented by Bell Let’s Talk. The game scheduled for September 13th, 2019 will take place at the McIntyre Arena and will feature the 2019 Memorial Cup champions.

Niagara IceDogs alumni Carter Verhaeghe will remain with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL. Carter played all four OHL seasons with Niagara, he played 262 games during his major junior career tallying 224 total points. The IceDogs selected Carter in the 2nd round, 38th overall during the 2011 OHL Priority draft, and the former IceDogs forward has signed a one year, two-way contract with the Lightning. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 3rd round, 82nd overall during the 2013 NHL entry draft.

Mississauga Steelheads alumni Alexander Nylander was in the NHL trade news as he was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Steelheads first-round pick in the 2015 CHL import draft was also drafted in the first round of the NHL entry draft, Alexander was selected 8th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2016. The former Mississauga Steelheads forward tallied 75 points in 57 games played while in the OHL for one season.

Some OHL members have made their way on to one of two rosters the USA will have competed in the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Michigan. Hamilton Bulldogs Arthur Kaliyev will play for team white, joining him will be Peterborough Petes forward Nick Robertson.
