Overview of the O: NHL team hires Steelheads hockey analyst, Sarnia Sting sign 2nd import selection, Canada U-17 roster breakdown

The Mississauga Steelheads Director of Player Evaluations and Assistant to the GM Zac Urback has been hired by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Zac has been with the Steelheads since 2015 when he joined the organization as Coordinator of Hockey Analytics. The former Steelheads hockey operations staff member will join the Blue Jackets franchise as a Hockey Analyst.

The Sarnia Sting have signed 2nd round import draft selection Marek Berka to a player agreement. The 2019 CHL import draft pick hails from the Czech Republic where he spent last season with HC Litvinov U19 in the Czech league. The six foot forward tallied 29 goals and 21 assists for 50 points in 48 games played in 2018-2019. This is Sarnia’s second import draft pick to sign with the team since the 2019 draft.

The battles begin at Hockey Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp as 112 players head to Calgary this week. 20 OHL teams are represented by prospects invited to camp, 46 Players were chosen in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. Camp runs from July 19th to the 26th at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park.
